Lauren Meader Fowlkes, Realtor®
I am a born and raised Texan and have been a full time Marfa resident since 2011. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2004 with a degree in Government and minor in Psychology. I became a licensed Real Estate Salesperson in 2005 and earned my Broker’s License in 2019. I sold residential real estate in Austin before returning to San Antonio, where I partnered with my mother at our family Ready Mix Concrete business. I operated a concrete plant at the San Antonio Airport up until our sale to Martin Marietta Materials in 2007, where I worked in sales after the acquisition.
I returned to the real estate industry in 2008 owning and managing residential, commercial, and industrial properties. With a more flexible job, I travelled to our ranch in Presidio County with increasing frequency, working remotely and enjoying the high desert weather. In 2009 our family business acquired a house in town, which was added to my real estate management business’s first vacation rental, The Austinite.
I moved to Marfa in 2011 with a job I found in the Big Bend Sentinel classifieds as my excuse to relocate. In 2013, I opened Far West Texas Realty from a desk in the Austinite with only a website and a laptop. In the years since the business has grown into an office downtown, a short-term rental management portfolio of 10+ vacation rentals, a handful of long term rentals, and several million dollars of real estate transaction closings each year.
My goal at FWTR is to provide the highest level of service, professionalism, ethics, and marketing in Marfa. We combine the superior level of sophistication and market knowledge our discerning client has come to expect from Realtors in metropolitan areas with the friendly, personal experience one hopes to find in a small town brokerage. There is no need to settle for less in Marfa.
Roberta Cortner Meader, Broker
After purchasing a ranch with my husband and father in law in 1981, I decided to get my real estate license because we were appalled at the lack of professionalism and honesty of some of the agents involved. We felt as if we didn’t have anyone on “our” side. Our goal at Far West Texas Realty is for our clients to feel that we are 100% on their side. Whether buying, selling or managing your property, we are very clear with our clients that we are representing them.
My undergraduate degree in Marketing is from the University of Texas at Austin, my MBA is from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Since 1982, I have primarily managed companies and used my license to the benefit of my family owned companies’ real estate & business investments, including ranches, unimproved commercial property, homes and businesses. My sales have ranged from a Snowball Stand for $2500 to a Mom wanting a summer job for her son, a wholesale plumbing supply to a multi-million dollar strip center in Stone Oak, San Antonio.
Since 2006 my daughter, Lauren, has been my business partner in many ventures. Together we have built a portfolio of rental properties, guest houses and vacation rental properties. We are passionate about our professionalism and caring for our clients.
